A Lollipop woman was killed in duty outside a Primary school in the East End of Glasgow on Thursday Morning.

The 59-year-old woman, named as Catherine Gibson from Whitehill Street, Dennistoun, was struck down as a group of Parents and Children stood at the roadside, waiting to cross.

Passers-by and paramedics who arrived at the scene attempted to assist Ms Gibson but she died soon after the accident.

Strathclyde police are investigating the tragic incident which happened outside St Anne's Primary in Calton just before 9am.

The male lorry driver was left uninjured, although he was badly shaken.

As you can see from the photo of the scene, the Lollipop woman was actually crossing children at a set of Traffic Lights designed for crossing with the green man. This just goes to show that when you hear that "bleep", you should think twice before charging out. If it can happen to a Lollipop Woman who is trained to be careful in these things, then it can happen to anyone.

Scene of the Incodent, just off London Road in Glasgow.

R.I.P Catherine Gibson
